The Hanged Man
divinationhermeticismspiritism
Card XII of the Major Arcana. A man hangs upside down from a living T-shaped tree, one leg crossed behind the other, a halo of golden light around his head. His expression is serene. Upright, The Hanged Man represents surrender, new perspectives, letting go, sacrifice for greater wisdom, and suspension of action. Sometimes the path forward requires you to stop trying. Reversed, it warns of stalling, martyrdom, resistance to necessary sacrifice, or needless delay. Associated with Neptune and the element of Water. The Hanged Man is the Fool's willing surrender — the paradox that giving up control opens the door to enlightenment.
