The Devil

divinationhermeticismceremonial magic

Card XV of the Major Arcana. A horned, winged figure crouches atop a pedestal where a naked man and woman stand chained — though the chains are loose enough to remove. An inverted pentagram blazes above. Upright, The Devil represents bondage, addiction, materialism, shadow self, and the illusion of being trapped. It challenges you to confront what holds you captive and recognize you hold the key. Reversed, it indicates breaking free, releasing attachment, reclaiming power, or beginning recovery. Associated with Capricorn and the element of Earth. The Devil confronts the Fool with the chains forged by desire, fear, and ignorance.
