Caduceus

hermeticismalchemyceremonial magic

The winged staff entwined by two serpents, carried by Hermes/Mercury. While often confused with the Rod of Asclepius (medicine), the Caduceus properly symbolizes commerce, negotiation, and the hermetic arts. The two serpents represent duality (yin/yang, solve/coagula), while the wings signify spiritual elevation. In alchemy, it symbolizes the union of opposites.
