Square (90°)

divinationhermeticism

A square occurs when two planets are approximately 90° apart (within an orb of 5-8°), typically connecting signs of the same modality (Cardinal, Fixed, or Mutable) but incompatible elements. The square is the most dynamic and challenging aspect — it creates friction, tension, and the urgent need to act. Squares are not "bad"; they are the engine of growth. Without squares, nothing would change. In a natal chart, squares indicate areas of internal conflict, recurring challenges, and the driving tension that pushes you to develop strength, resilience, and creative solutions. The two planets involved demand different things, and the resolution requires conscious integration rather than choosing one over the other. In transit, squares mark crisis points, turning points, and moments of necessary confrontation.
