Saturn

divinationhermeticismceremonial magic

The planet of structure, discipline, responsibility, limitation, and karma. Saturn is the "Great Malefic" in traditional astrology — not because it is evil, but because its lessons come through restriction, delay, and hard-won maturity. Saturn governs time, authority, boundaries, bones, and the consequences of our choices. It rules Capricorn (worldly achievement) and traditionally Aquarius (social order), is exalted in Libra, in detriment in Cancer and Leo, and in fall in Aries. Its orbital period is approximately 29.5 years — the famous "Saturn Return" at ages 28-30 and 57-60 marks major life transitions. Saturn retrograde periods invite reassessment of commitments and structures. In esoteric astrology, Saturn is the Dweller on the Threshold — the guardian who tests whether you have earned the next level. Correspondences: lead, Saturday, the bones and teeth, the color black, and The World card in the Major Arcana.
