Opposition (180°)

An opposition occurs when two planets are approximately 180° apart (within an orb of 5-8°), occupying signs that are directly across the zodiac from each other. The opposition creates a tug-of-war between two polarities that must be balanced rather than resolved in favor of one side. Oppositions represent awareness through relationship — you often encounter the opposing energy through other people, projecting onto them what you have not yet integrated in yourself. In a natal chart, oppositions indicate areas where you swing between extremes until you learn to hold both poles simultaneously. The key to working with oppositions is not compromise (which weakens both sides) but integration (which honors both).
